    RBD Palm Stearin

RBD Palm Stearin – Fractions & Blends product from Bio Green Oils and Fats

    About This Product

RBD palm stearin is the solid fraction recovered when refined palm oil is cooled under controlled conditions and the crystallised fat is filtered from the liquid olein. It is supplied as a hard, off-white fat with a slip melting point that usually falls between 44 and 56 degrees Celsius depending on the degree of fractionation, and it is traded across a range of iodine values, commonly 48 or below. Fractionation concentrates the saturated chains, lifting palmitic acid well above its level in whole palm oil and reducing the oleic and linoleic fractions. The result is a fat with a high solid fat content that persists to high temperature. In formulation this is used as a hardstock: a small proportion of stearin blended into a softer oil raises the melting profile and firmness of the blend without hydrogenating anything, which is how modern margarines and shortenings achieve structure while remaining free of trans fatty acids. The same high saturation makes it well suited to saponification, where saturated chains give a harder, longer-lasting soap bar. It is used as hardstock in margarines, shortenings and bakery fats, in soap and laundry bar manufacture, in candle blends, and as feedstock for fatty acid splitting and other oleochemical processing. Bio Green Oils and Fats supplies RBD palm stearin to specification on iodine value, slip melting point, free fatty acid, peroxide value, moisture and Lovibond colour.
